With the recent termination of the High Speed Rail, property developers, investors and businesses have offered several suggestions for Jurong Lake District, which is set to provide over 100,000 new jobs and 20,000 new homes when it is fully developed.
Some of these ideas include selling larger sites to give the developers flexibility to experiment with new development concepts. Signature events could also be held there while landmark developments and attractions could be created. Another suggestions is to “activate” the public realm through placemaking and provide exciting food and beverage (F&B), retail and lifestyle options that are different from those downtown.
Had Malaysia approve the HSR, it will probably take 15 to 20 years for the project to come to fruition and most HDB and Condos would be quite old as most of the recent developments were awarded at the height of the transformation. We are hopeful that in future Malaysia will see the massive benefits from this linkage as Singaporeans enjoy short getaways in the country.
